Digital Cameras Are Getting Cheaper And Easier

Published by at 4:53 pm under General

For a low end camera, Sony CyberShot DSCW150 has quite a wide variety of functionalities, some of which I have only encountered on DSLR’s. I was surprised to find features like live histogram (I know several prosumer cameras that don’t have it!), bracketing and manual focusing.

As the Fuji FinePix S700 is a good camera for the price. This camera has ten times optical zoom, with 7.1 megapixels and a two and a half inch viewing screen. The camera has fourteen pre-program scene modes. Compared to some of the other cameras with the same features and specifications, this is a very nice camera with quality pictures.

Chromatic aberration has been a problem in a number of the Canon point and shoots, including the predecessor to the SD800IS, the SD700. Canon obviously doesn’t see it as a problem, since it’s still visible in the SD800IS. Sometimes called “color fringing”, chromatic aberration is a cameras inability to focus two or more different colors on the same focal plane. Mostly, it shows up on wide angle photographs, and can look like a fringe of color around an object that shouldn’t be there.

OK, so the Canon PowerShot SD8000IS Elph, has some issues. But is it enough to be a deal breaker? Well, that’s really up to you. Of course the best strategy is to go your favorite camera shop, and try one out. Shoot a bunch of pictures around the store (outside if they let you), and see how they look. Be sure to ask the salesman lots of questions about the problems above, and see what they have to say. There’s no substitute for a real life hands on camera trial. This how to buy digital cameras for children and this what i should look for when buying a camera should help.

It may be priced high, but not without reason. One of the biggest reasons for that is the full frame sensor that is standard issue on the D700. What full frame means, is that the image sensor is the same size as the film frame would be in a conventional 35mm film camera.

The Fujifilm FinePix F40FD is a good camera with 8.3 megapixels, 6.9 times digital zoom and three times optical zoom. The price on this camera is very affordable.

The closest competitor to the waterproof line of pentax digital cameras offers a digital camera with the capability of takeing underwater pictures up to a depth of thirty-three feet. This model of waterproof digital camera is much more expensive then the more reasonably priced Optio W30 making it a much smarter purchase.

When you are changing the batteries or removing the memory card in the Optio W30 you need to do so with care, making sure that your hands are completely dry as the accessories in this digital camera are not covered by the waterproof function.

Except for the DSLR’s it appears that few digital cameras, have addressed the problem of shutter lag and have the ability to shoot in RAW. Until they do they are toys at best and a waste of time at least. There are a few times and places when carrying my Canon DSLR’s are not advisable. Hopefully the day will come soon when these so called pocket cameras will have some use.
